South African law requires every business to provide a safe and healthy work environment for its employees. This includes small and micro businesses. While most business owners or entrepreneurs try their best to provide a safe working environment for their staff, there are specific requirements that your business needs to meet, depending on the industry that you are in.

The Occupational Health and Safety act, Act 85 of 1993 sets out specific requirements that all businesses must adhere to. In order for your company to comply with legislation, an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is required. This will then produce a Health and Safety File.

In the case of a client who employs a full-time safety professional who is absent from work, Safety for Africa will send a replacement Safety Officer to perform the safety duties on the days that they are not available.

There are three elements to the service provided by Safety for Africa:
  1. A Database of Qualified OHS Officers available.
  2. Health and Safety Professional Services – An affordable service fee is payable by the Client. The service fee is calculated on an hourly rate.
  3. A Health and Safety Online Storage Facility - A minimal monthly subscription fee is payable to Safety for Africa to keep the storage facility active and the services of safety professionals available.

Through our online system, businesses can then submit a request for a safety officer and arrangements can be made to interview suitable candidates.
